ONKYO TX SR608 – Why Onkyo?
Looking for A/V Receiver? Smart way to find the right product for you is to compare it’s price with it’s performance. Why spends more if you can find something with quality but with less price? ONKYO TX SR608 may be called an “entry-level” A/V receiver, but when you witness the full potential of the Onkyo TX-SR608, you’ll know the level you’re entering is far beyond the ordinary.
For a start, you get six of the latest HDMI 1.4 inputs for simple hook-up of all your high-def sources. HDMI 1.4 also brings compatibility with the new 3-D video format, as well as an Audio Return Channel from your display back to the receiver. Complementing HDMI on the input front, you have an analog RGB video input for connecting your PC, and a Universal Port for Onkyo peripherals.
All video sources, regardless of resolution, can be upscaled to big and beautiful 1080p via HDMI and Faroudja DCDi Cinema. Audio processing incorporates quality Burr-Brown DACs, lossless Dolby and DTS codecs, and the expanded surround formats of Audyssey DSX and Dolby Pro Logic IIz. Three-stage inverted Darlington circuitry and jitter-cleaning technology will work to ensure extremely precise and faithful amplification. In recognition of the ONKYO TX SR608’s outstanding A/V prowess, this receiver has been awarded THX Select2 Plus Certification.
When it comes to video processing, TX SR608 supported with the Faroudja DCDi Cinema (Directional Correlational Deinterlacing) video processor offers several advantages. This processor can accept any video signal, regardless of the source resolution, and upscale it to 1080p in order to match the native resolution of your high-definition display. What’s more, DCDi Cinema will work effectively to eliminate video artifacts such as jagged edges during the video signal deinterlacing process. You will be amazed and enjoy the smooth progressive scan video images, even for fast-moving sports and action scenes.
High-quality Burr-Brown DACs (PCM1690) work to optimize analog audio performance on the TX-SR608. These DACs perform advanced 24-bit signal processing and support sampling rates of up to 192 kHz, all while displaying high resistance to clock jitter and offering a 113 dB dynamic range.
The TX-SR608 can decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MasterAudio--two lossless formats that enable delivery of a bit-for-bit soundtrack that's identical to the studio master track. These codecs, previously available only on mid-range and high-end receivers, take the advantage of high data capacity of the Blu-ray format.
Audyssey 2EQ Acoustic Room Correction tailors multi-channel audio for your home theater speaker set-up by measuring three room positions and applying a resolution filter to the satellite speakers to correct for room acoustics. Audyssey Dynamic Volume automatically compensates for annoying volume fluctuations in audio content--for example, during jarring commercial breaks--all while optimizing the dynamic range of your sound. Finally, Audyssey Dynamic EQ maintains a consistent bass response, tonal balance, and surround-sound effect at different volume levels, so you can enjoy the natural dynamics of your content regardless of the volume.
With Powered Zone 2, you could enjoy surround-sound entertainment in the main room, while playing back a different stereo source in a second zone equipped with a pair of speakers. Alternatively, you can use the Zone 2 line-out to send an unamplified audio signal to an amplifier (and speakers) in the second room.
Changing your A/V receiver’s settings is now more seamless than ever, thanks to the TX-SR608’s new overlaid graphical On-Screen Display (OSD) feature. Simply press the Home button on the included remote controller, and semi-transparent graphical set-up menus appear overlaid on the video image you are watching. This means you can change the settings immediately without having to switch back and forth from a blank screen background.
The Onkyo TX-SR608 is an amazing receiver for the cost. One of the best features of this receiver is the way it handles the volume control. First of all you can set the volume level that the receiver on turns on so you are not overwhelmed with a loud volume right away. Also you can set a maximum level so you don't accidentally turn the volume level too high. Audyssey Dynamic Volume is perfect when you don't want huge fluxuations in volume so that dialogue, music and surround effects don't drown each other out. This means you don't have to constantly turn volume up and down during a movie as it maintains a more consistant level of volume. In order to use Audyssey Dynamic Volume, first you MUST run Audyssey 2EQ Acoustic Room Correction. Place included microphone on a cheap tripod for this; DO NOT HOLD IN YOUR HAND as I have read some have;this can have an adverse effect on sound output. Set the Dynamic Volume to the Compression Mode you want(Light, Medium, or Hesvy as Off is Default) set Re-EQ function to ON as well. The instruction manual is very detailed and easy to understand. Default setings are underlined in the instruction manual.
